Lusitano horses were first brought to Brazil in the early 1500's by the Portuguese explorers when Brazil was a colony of Portugal. The Lusitanos adapted well to the climate and terrain and made excellent cattle horses. In 1541 a large herd of Lusitanos were sent to Brazil for breeding. Today's breeds, although diverging into different strains from selective breeding still retain all the early Iberian characteristics of stamina, strength and agility. In the l970's when Communism caused unrest in Portugal and the landowners were no longer financially able to keep large herds, hundreds of Lusitano horses were sold abroad to Brazil, Mexico, France, and Spain.

One of the most famous Iberian studs in the world is that of Manuel Veiga at Golega, Portugal. Famous horses from the Veiga line include Novilheiro, the famous showjumper ridden by John Whitaker in England; Opus the bullfighting mount of Alvaro Domecq and Neptuno, the mount of Vidrie. All three horses are out of a Veiga mare by an Andrade stallion.

We imported Veneno Imperial from Brazil as a 5-year old to add the Veiga bloodline to our breeding program. Veneno had some training when he arrived but we took him back to the basics and today continue to train for dressage. We will be showing him this year in dressage as well as breeding to our mares and outside mares.

VENENO IMPERIAL's  cross-bred foal.  This gorgeous filly is "Peaches N Cream" bred by Yancey Farms, Ocala, Florida, to our Veneno.  Peaches' dam is a cross between Andalusian stallion Gaucho III and Kiger mare from the high desert of Oregon. Yancey Farms is well known for importing and  breeding of German Warmbloods since 1975. This baby is really tall and a big strided mover. She is for sale and Judy Yancey can be contacted yanceyfarms@hughes.net.

The Alter Real line was founded in the 18th century by the Braganza royal family of Portugal for the purpose of supplying the royal stables in Lisbon with suitable high school and carriage horses. The Alter Real horses became respected all over Portugal and Spain for classical equitation. The stable continues today as a state-owned breeding facility for equitation and dressage horses. To our knowledge, Exaustivo is the only 100% Alter Real stallion in the Americas.

Exaustivo exhibits the superb athletic ability and collection that makes the Alter Real horses excel at high level dressage movements. He has also proven his ability to pass on his athletic ability, fluid movement, kind willing temperament, and regal presence to his foals.

We retired him from showing in 2004 and now offer him for stud to outside mares.

We ship semen all over the United States with successful results  but  we don't always get to see his babies.  Kim Robare, Maryland, bred her Lusitano mare to Exaustivo and she was kind enough to send us a picture of her beautiful colt Donato.
